DCEC/DPO 2026 Scholarship Awardees
The Door County Environmental Council and (now past) Door Property Owners association proudly awarded its 2026 DCEC/DPO Scholarship awards to three outstanding graduating high school seniors. Each student received a $1000 tuition scholarship in recognition of their academic achievements, leadership, and commitment to the environment.
Britney Wanless of Southern Door High School will attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison this fall. Britney has been active in band, choir, student council, National Honor Society, and math team, among many other activities. Because of her love of nature, she plans to minor in Environmental Studies alongside a major in Psychology.
Breanna Anderson of Sevastopol High School plans to attend Colorado State University to study fish and wildlife conservation with hopes of becoming a field wildlife biologist. She has been involved in band, music, swim team, and summer camp counseling.
Abigail DeMeuse of Gibraltar High School will attend Northern Michigan University to study environmental stewardship and art. Abigail is active in the Gibraltar Ecology Club, National Honor Society, and forensics. Abigail also serves as the youngest DCEC board member in the history of the Door County Environmental Council.
The Door County Environmental Council is proud to support these young women in their educational journeys and environmental interest. Congratulations and best wishes to all three students!
DCEC/DPO 2025 Scholarship Awardees
The DCEC is excited to announce four recipients of the Door County Environmental Council / Door Property Owners (now disbanded) annual scholarship awards. These $1000 scholarships are offered each year to graduating high school students from the school districts of Door County. The four recipients are: Molly Hall from Southern Door High School; Braden Evers from Sturgeon Bay High School; Lauren Bertges from Gibraltar High School, and Noah Adler from Bridges Virtual Academy. Congratulations students!
Molly Hall, plans to pursue a career in science and research focused on environmental conservation. She will be attending the University of New England in Biddleford, Maine, majoring in Marine sciences and Marine biology. She hopes to bring that all back home and apply it to Door County.
Braden Evers has been accepted to Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. He plans to pursue a double major in Environmental Studies and Sustainability. He plans to carry with him “a promise to turn gratitude into action and ambition into restoration” as inspired by the beauty of Door County. He wishes to protect the communities and ecosystems that have shaped his life up to the present day.
Lauren Bertges will be attending the University of Wisconsin–Madison and will be majoring in Pharmacology and Toxicology. Lauren loves to be outdoors hiking or swimming or just enjoying the outdoors and nature. She has had the opportunity to experience the contrasting environments in the desert southwest state of New Mexico and here in northeast Wisconsin.
Noah Adler has been accepted into Lakeland University Life and Career Studies program. As president of the high school Ecology Club, he has shown strong leadership skills and deep commitment to environmental issues. His induction to the National Honor Society is a testament to his scholastic achievements and character. His role as the founder of “United Against Hate” initiative displays his moral courage and dedication to creating a more inclusive community.
