JACKSONPORT  BOARD VOTES FOR SCHAUER PARK DEVELOPMENT

Last night, November 12th after listening to testimony from a full house of concerned citizens , including professional people who testified in opposition, the town board voted 2 to 1 to proceed with the plans  for county development of the Schauer Park land.

This was done without any knowledge of which plan was going to be utilized, what the actual lease time would be, and who will have ultimate responsibility if the venture fails
to meet expectations.

The chairman argued that the feasibility study was faulted as was pointed out by others, the location was not acceptable for the scope of this plan, and that income generated from the use of the boat landing would not be sufficient for maintenance. He supported general improvement of the site as a town project.

Outspoken supervisor Jeanne Majeski argued that the project would meet all needs and had the support of the majority of residents of the town. She had an advance prepared motion which was supported by supervisor Halstead giving the project a 2 to 1 vote.

The town board had been given a tour of county parks previously to demonstrate the good management of the present county parks, “not to influence their future thinking” according to County Board Chairman Leo Zipperer

Mike Kahr, a local expert on dock and dredging issues said the location is wrong and could be much more easily accomplished at another site where deep water is close to shore.

The saga continues….
