![]() Mike Madden Accepts the Award as DCEC president Eileen Andera looks on. Every
year, at its Annual Summer Program, the Door County
Environmental Council (DCEC) honors a person as Environmental Citizen
of the year. This year, DCEC gave the award to retired Sevastopol
teacher Mike Madden.
In presenting the award, on August 15th, at the Baileys Harbor Town Hall, Eileen Andera, president of DCEC cited Madden's generosity in "giving freely of his time and talents in defense of [the county's] fragile environment." Andera presented Madden with a plaque containing the resolution of the DCEC's board that cited his accomplishments. In part, the DCEC board recognized Madden's instrumental support of "the Door County Land Trust, The Ridges Sanctuary, the Collins Learning Center and Crossroads at Big Creek." They also honored Madden's "many years in dedicated service to the Sevastopol School District as an educator and resource protection leader for students in that school area." The resolution concluded by thanking Madden as a "friend of nature and for your many years of dedication to preserving the unique and irreplaceable environment of Door County." Persons wishing further information about DCEC programs, informational bulletins, studies or brochures can contact DCEC at dcec@itol.com or by telephone, (920) 743-6003.
