Don & Coggin
Heeringa Named Environmentalists of the Year
The Door County Environmental Council honored not one, but two,
environmentalists of the year at their standing-room-only Annual Summer
Program Wednesday evening in Baileys Harbor.
Don and Coggin Heeringa were the joint recipients of the annual honor,
normally given only one person each year to recognize outstanding
contributions to Door County's environment.
In presenting the award, Environmental Council president Eileen Andera
cited Coggin's invaluable service to Crossroads at Big Creek and her
contributions each summer at the Interlochen Music Festival in Michigan
where she serves as resident naturalist.
Don Heering was was honored for his long-standing work at Newport State
Park and as a member of the Door County Invasive Species Team working
to eliminate the threats posed by nuisance plants such as garlic
mustard and phragmites.
The Environmental Council has honored outstanding Door County
environmental activists annually since 1995.
