DCEC Adds Great Lakes Alliance Program for August 13th

The Door County Environmental Council (DCEC) has added a program featuring the Great Lakes Alliance(GLA) to its annual summer series. Jamie Cross, GLA's Outreach Program Manager, will be coming to Crossroads at Big Creek, Sturgeon Bay to present "Great Lakes Restoration: One Community at a Time." The presentation is scheduled for 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 13th.

Cross will be bringing an update of the latest information on events and legislation important to the Great Lakes. She will be joined on the dais by Crossroads director and naturalist, Coggin Herringa, for the main part of the evening's presentation on Great Lakes restoration. Crossroads and GLA are partnering on a cooperative project under the "One Community at a Time" program.

Included as part of the evening's information will be the introduction of a "tool kit' that can be used by any community group or individual to plan, fund and implement local environmental projects to benefit the Great Lakes.

"We're just delighted to add a visit from the Great Lakes Alliance to our schedule," said Jerry Viste, executive director of DCEC. "Our partnerships with state, regional and national organizations are a vital part of our work in protecting Door County's beautiful natural environment. This evening will be an excellent opportunity to get a solid regional view of our Great Lakes."

Attendees are reminded that DCEC provides free compact-fluorescent light bulb disposal at each of its events. Those bringing bulbs are asked to securely wrap them to prevent breakage.

For further information on DCEC or its compact-fluorescent disposal program, contact them by phone at (920) 743-6003 or info@dcec-wi.web via email.
